More Than Running!

As you know I have committed to running, walking, skipping, jumping...doing something for at least one mile outside everyday.  Today is January 20 and I have gone 19 straight days and it feels

GOOD!

However, it's not all about running or even moving.  Last night I was out running around 11:30 at night.  The sky was clear, the moon - while not full - was bright as were the stars...oh yeah...and Jupiter!  I was out on a lonely country road all by myself.  The night was very quiet - except for the cow (or horse - it was dark I couldn't tell) who snorted at me.  I believe I surprised him as much as he surprised me!

THE NIGHT WAS SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL

And that is the added benefit of what I am doing...clearing my mind and enjoying life for life itself.

What GREAT therapy!

Being under the stars just gets you in touch with nature, a higher being, the universe...whatever you want to call it.  It gave me

ENERGY

and renewed my spirit.

Try it sometime...not necessarily running at night but just go outside on a nice quiet, clear night and stare at the sky.

AMAZING!

Still Running! (Well...still moving at least)

It is January 13 - a Monday - and I am still doing at least a mile a day.

Woo Hoo!

This has been a great idea so far as just keeping the streak alive forces me to put on my shoes and step out of the house. Once out and moving I am glad I put my shoes on.  There have been a couple of times already where my motivation was really low but...

gotta respect the streak

I have also become reacquainted with the night sky - I love it!

Jupiter is in the morning sky right now!  So

BIG

So

BRIGHT

I saw some deer tonight as I ran.  Three of them actually.  When I first saw the movement in the trees my first thought was

COYOTES

We have coyotes in the area and some have been spotted in my neighborhood before.  I was wondering what to do if they came to check me out.

Glad I didn't have to come up with an answer.  I realized they were deer and kept on putting one foot in front of the other.  This endeavor has been a blessing so far.  I haven't had as many headaches, I am losing a little bit of weight, I am sleeping better and...

MORE ENERGY!

A Good Thing so far for the

ENERGIZER IN CHIEF

A New Year!

It's a NEW YEAR!

Woo Hoo!

A chance to re-start, re-engage or simple begin the things you've been putting off but wanting to do.  One thing I have been thinking about doing (I originally typed "trying" but has Yoda says there is no try only do or not do) is to start a running streak.  This idea was given to me by David Pollack, a former defensive lineman for the Georgia Bulldogs.  Now, he didn't give it to me directly but through his twitter account.  See twitter can have positive contributions!
His idea is to get out and move at least

ONE MILE

EVERYDAY

That's right - run, walk, skip, hop, jump, dance at least

ONE MILE

EVERYDAY

What a Positive way toward self-improvement!

If you have never run before you may not believe that running can be a self-improvement program on many different levels but as a casual runner (I have run 1 full marathon, a couple half-marathons and many 5-10ks) I can tell you it can.  I like running alone without headphones so that I can just let my mind wander.

So...who's in with me!?

ONE MILE

EVERYDAY

Lucky Success!

Ok...I'm sitting here over 5 years after my last post wondering if I can remember my password and sign into this blog. Of course, by me typing this and you reading it I was successful.  Imagine that!

It's all from having a Positive Attitude!

Right?

And perhaps a little luck

I don't really have a topic to write on today as I am unprepared to have success

That was pretty dumb of me

DUMB!

You should always be prepared for success...even when it is achieved by blind luck.

I'll have a better topic next time...I hope!

Fun!

I just got through watching a Target commercial about living long. What struck me about the commercial was the sense of fun. People jumping on a trampoline, kids pillow fighting, a woman blowing a big ol' bubble and letting it pop on her face.

Fun

Silly

Fun is something we don't do enough but it is something that will make us feel better.

Fun

Feels

Good

Fun brings energy to our lives!

Now, your definition of Fun may be different from mine. Fun can be anything or even everything depending on the situation. Fun is determined by your attitude and the energy you bring to life. I am sure you know people who seem to enjoy everything they do.

These people have a sense of Fun!

So, is it possible to recreate a Target commercial everyday of your life?

Sure...why not!?

All you need is to foster a positive attitude and

Have Fun!

Start Positive

I have read from many sources that the first contact you have each day has more influence over you than the next five experiences. Because of this you are told to make sure you start your day off with a positive experience.

Take 10 – 15 minutes to read a positive passage from a book

Take a walk first thing in the morning and take a mental list of all the positive things you have in your life

Get up and exercise – doing something positive for your body and mind.

I wondered about this advice so I have been keeping track to see if it is accurate, if it is indeed really true

IT IS!

I was amazed, once I focused my attention on this, how much that very first experience of the day effects the rest of your day. The days I woke up and said to myself, “Oh man, I am tired and I do not feel like getting up and going into work” I didn’t have the same drive or energy as other days. The days my wife and I fussed a little bit in the morning discussing things that have to be done, have to be paid, have to be picked up – they were much harder to get started.

I have a habit each morning of getting up and letting the dog out as I walk down the driveway to pick up the paper. I used to do this moaning about the cracking joints, the weather, or anything else that seemed wrong.

Now, while the actual action of this routine has not changed I now make sure that I take in the atmosphere of the morning. I look at the trees and especially look up at the sky. This puts me into a positive frame of mind. I am lucky enough to live somewhat away from the lights of town so I can see stars when I look up. You absolutely cannot resist the beauty of a starry sky once you gaze up.

It is amazing.

This is my cup of positivity each morning - Looking at the starry sky…the natural beauty of it all. (I have even extended this habit to the evening. I go out in my backyard and lay in the grass looking up at the sky while the dog romps around for a while. I was surprised by how many “shooting stars” you can see by doing this)

I then come back inside the house in a great mood. It hasn’t failed me yet. Just 2-3 minutes of looking at nature. That is all it takes for me.

You must find your own way to start your day off on a positive note. It will carry you through the morning and if you’re lucky…all day…
